Nestled in the bustling heart of Jalan Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, Hing Kee Bakuteh Jalan Kepong stands out as a quintessential Chinese dining destination that elevates the humble bak kut teh to a Michelin Guide-recognized masterpiece. Revered for its comforting warmth and deeply rooted flavors, this restaurant draws locals and discerning food lovers alike to savor a dish that speaks of heritage and culinary finesse.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly their bak kut teh, offered in both a clear, aromatic soup and a more intense dry version. The soup, crafted with a meticulous balance of herbs and spices, is famously “clear” and “clean” — a subtle yet profoundly flavorful broth that surprises you with its depth without feeling heavy or greasy. Diners often rave about its seamless pairing with chopped garlic and fiery chili padi, which intricately elevate the tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork ribs.
Complementing the bak kut teh is a thoughtful selection of add-ons such as enoki mushrooms (MYR 4.50), fried tofu skin (MYR 4.00), fresh lettuce (MYR 4.00), and button mushrooms (MYR 3.50), allowing each meal to be personalized. Signature dishes like the sliced pork belly (MYR 22.00) offer a rich, savory punch that balances beautifully with the herb-laden soup. The braised chicken feet (MYR 11.00) present a delightfully gelatinous texture, soaked in full-bodied flavors, serving as perfect snacks that keep you reaching for more.
One standout that has captured many hearts is the gingered yellow rice wine chicken, a dish brimming with generous amounts of ginger and imbued with a piquant yet comforting zing, creating a harmonious dance of flavors that linger lovingly on the palate. Add in the aromatic shallot oil rice — praised for its unique and savory charm — and each meal becomes an immersive experience in authentic Malaysian Chinese comfort food.
The dining atmosphere at Hing Kee Bakuteh Jalan Kepong is both inviting and spacious, thanks to its expansive presence covering six shoplots, making it an ideal retreat from Kuala Lumpur’s urban buzz. Guests frequently note the restaurant's lively yet unhurried vibe, where communal tables and friendly service foster a welcoming environment perfect for family gatherings or casual meals after a day’s adventures.
What truly sets Hing Kee apart is the unmistakable credibility earned from consistently glowing reviews and coveted Michelin Guide recognition in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Patrons like T.H. Looi praise the soup’s impeccable quality, while Daryl Chiew shares that the bak kut teh here surpasses the typical Klang style, celebrated for its superior broth and authentic taste. With cyclone Senyar pouring freeflow sky juice today in Kepong, the urge to have warm soup with rice for dinner after pickleball, led me to this famous bak kut teh's eating house. As usual, the bkt was top notch 4.7* especially goes well with chopped garlics and chilly padi. Tasted the gingered yellow rice wine chicken for the 1st time here, it was oishi too 4.7*. Plentiful of gingers and generous rice wine to warm our bodies. A nice lovely dinner indeed on a wet day. Nov 27, 2025

Was told this restaurant serves better bak kut teh than Klang style bak kut teh by a local and it surely did not disappoint especially the soup version. The dry version didn't have the same kick. Nonetheless overall still a 5/5 bak kut teh. The restaurant was packed with locals, there's also a famous Hokkien Mee shop next door.

Return to restaurants after visit next shop past few weeks as it surprise me with michelin star and 5 shops in a row , super crowded during dinner time. as klang bah kut teh lover , i must try how is this kepong bkt good at. The claypot soup bkt is super clear and “clean” type which not mix with left over herbal and meat fat , etc , it looks purely clear plain but surprisingly rich with flavor , non heavy type bkt but consider good for me. the meat served with 3 layer pork but actually we order belly , surprisingly it is good also , medium soft type . Ngam me , the soup bkt do not come with fu zok or tao poh unless top up . Tried also dry type bkt , it taste ok , not bad . Overall satisfying the food and service

Hing Kee Bakuteh – Michelin Guide 2023, 2024, 2025 Michelin-rated Bakuteh. Enough said! Hing Kee has two shops along Jalan Kepong, but this particular branch is the better choice — easier to find parking and it spans across six shoplots, giving it a more spacious feel. We arrived around 11:30am and the restaurant was still relatively quiet. Ordered a mix to try: soup BKT, dry BKT, rice wine prawns, tofu pok, yau char gwai, plain rice, and shallot oil rice. Soup Bakuteh – The broth is clear and light, savoury with a subtle sweetness and a mild touch of Chinese herbs. We ordered pork belly with intestines. The meat was fresh, nothing spectacular — but the intestines? OMG. Clean, tender, and bursting with flavour. RM22 (meat) + RM4 (beancurd skin) + RM4 (enoki mushroom) Dry Bakuteh – Sadly, this didn’t live up to expectations. Very average and forgettable. RM22. Rice Wine Prawns – This was the highlight of the meal for me. I absolutely loved the strong rice wine aroma, paired with generous slices of ginger that carried a slight sweetness. The prawns were fresh, and there were subtle hints of egg in the broth that gave it a nice texture and depth. It’s warm, comforting, and packed with flavour — a dish I’d gladly return just for. I truly adore this dish. RM28.00 Tofu Pok – Soaked in soup, I absolutely loved this. Dip it in garlic, chili, soy, and thick dark sauce — bliss. RM5. Yau Char Gwai – A must-have for soup dipping. RM3. Rice – The plain rice is good quality, no cheap grains. Shallot oil rice is aromatic. RM2 & RM3 respectively. The place is without AC, but it’s clean and airy. Loved how they neatly arranged their utensils. Seating is comfortable and not cramped. Service was fast and efficient. Parking is surprisingly easy, since most cars are here for one thing — Bakuteh! I’ll travel for the rice wine dish! Skip the dry Bakuteh and order rice wine instead. Thank me later.

By far the best Bak Ku Teh I ever eat in Malaysia. Both soup and dry was equally good . The ginger wine prawns was amazing, the broth was very strong and delicious too. Their shallot oil rice was surprising unique and delicious too. Must order 2 bowl next time . Best warm comfort food. Sure to eat again when travel here again.
